About Us

Ball'An was created by second generation Italian-American distillers, and a Frenchman, to re-imagine classic cocktail ingredients.  The name references the phrase 'anima bellissima' in Italian and 'belle âme' in French, meaning beautiful soul in both languages.  We believe that compelling products must be rooted in tradition while employing something new.  Whether that 'new' thing is a method of production, exotic or novel ingredients, or something else is what we aspire to create.

Since 2009 we have been formulating custom syrups, bitters and other ingredients for upscale bars and restaurants.  In 2024 we decided to make our first public offerings of spirits - an Italian style sweet vermouth liqueur as well as a French style dry vermouth liqueur.  These non-oxidizing products are are very reminiscent of the classic alpine vermouths when first opened, and you can depend on that flavor persisting until you finish the bottle.

We also love classic culinary references that are seldom found in spirits, especially umami ones.  Combinations like citrus and fennel, saffron and garlic, even mirepoix.  Our love of spices and novel production methods, including vacuum distillation for some products and aromatic extraction for others, enables us to give you something truly innovative in a market largely characterized by mass production and mimicry.

Using conventional spirits ingredients, minerals, herbs, and classic flavor combinations makes our products approachable and compelling.

Methods

In addition to traditional mashing and distilling methods we also use emerging technologies and borrowed equipment from other science disciplines.

Culture

Although we respect tradition we are not bound by it.  Our goal is to democratize access to rarified flavors and deliver compelling value in everything we make.
